Preprint on human-malaria genetic association now out

Our preprint "The protective effect of sickle haemoglobin depends on parasite genotype" is now out on bioRxiv. This reports the discovery that genetic variants in three regions of the P.falciparum genome are associated with infections of individuals carrying the sickle haemoglobin allele (HbS). These 'Pfsa+' variants seem to have been evolving under strong selective forces. But their biological effects are not known at present
